FTUI and UDE Strengthen Strategic Partnership

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), and the Faculty of Engineering, Universität Duisburg-Essen (UDE), Germany, have expanded their 20-year strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a student exchange agreement on April 11, 2025, at UI Depok.

Both institutions focus on multidisciplinary research in energy, electric vehicles, smart cities, and tailored materials. FTUI oversees eight departments and strategic research centers, including the Institute for Energy Studies and the Advanced Vehicle Research Center. UDE, one of Germany’s largest engineering faculties, excels in Human-Centered Cyber-Physical Systems, Tailored Materials, and Energy & Resource Engineering, and is an active member of international networks in Asia, including with UI.

With a shared vision of driving global innovation through education, research, and societal impact, the partnership exemplifies collaborative, cross-cultural solutions to pressing challenges such as environmental sustainability, energy resilience, and technology-driven social transformation. The discussion on expanding this collaboration was also attended by delegates from UDE, namely the Senior Professor and Chair of Mechatronics, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Hermann Dieter Schramm; and Prof. Dr. Axel Hunger (Senior Professor, Faculty of Engineering).
