FIT Program @ UDE:

Boosting International

Engineering Talents in Germany

Germany needs engineers. International students bring the talent, but studying and working in a new country isn’t always easy. That’s where FIT – Engineering Talents for Germany at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) comes in.

What is FIT?

The FIT project (2024-2028) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). FIT is a

support program that helps international engineering students not only survive but thrive, at university and in the job market.

Studying engineering abroad is exciting but also challenging. Language barriers, cultural differences, and job market uncertainties can make the journey harder. FIT tackles these challenges head-on, offering international students at UDE a clear pathway to success.

What You Get

  • Language skills: German courses up to C1.
  • Orientation: “Get Ready@UDE” & “Living in Germany” sessions to make study and daily life smoother.
  • Intercultural training: Learn how to navigate cultural differences in study and work.
  • Career prep: Job application coaching, LinkedIn workshops, and insights into German work culture.

Why It Matters

  • Germany faces a shortage of engineers (International graduates are in demand)
  • Students get the tools to succeed academically and professionally.
  • Companies gain skilled, culturally fluent young engineers ready to contribute.

FIT is more than just a program. It’s a launchpad for international talent. If you’re an engineering

student at UDE dreaming of a future in Germany, FIT helps turn that dream into reality.

Last month, the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysaia transformed the Akademia Siber Teknopolis (AST) into a vibrant hub of global collaboration. The event, "Malaysia-Germany: Bridging Research & Expert Exchange," was held in conjunction with R!CH 2025 (Research, Innovation & Commercialization Highlights) to celebrate and expand upon decades of academic synergy. The cornerstone of the event was the showcase of the deep-rooted partnership between UKM and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). For over 20 years, this collaboration has served as a vital bridge, enabling students and researchers to cross-pollinate ideas between the Malaysian and German engineering landscapes.

Event Highlights

• The Product Directory Launch: A new roadmap for industries to discover market-ready technology developed right here at UKM.

• Licensing Success: The ceremony featured the presentation of licensing checks to researchers whose inventions have officially transitioned from the lab to the commercial sector.

• DAAD Funding: For students and young researchers, the sessions on Research Funding and Grant Opportunities in Germany were a goldmine of information for international career advancement.

• German Day: A dedicated exhibition and seminar series focusing on:

  • The prestigious UKM-UDE Dual Degree Program and joint student mobility.
